WOLLONGONG ELECTORATE SPORT AND COMMUNITY GROUPS SHARE IN $300,000 COMMUNITY BUILDING PARTNERSHIP GRANTS

North Wollongong Surf Club is one of 21 not-for-profit community and sporting groups to share in $300,000 funding under the Wollongong electorate’s Community Building Partnership (CBP) program.

North Wollongong Surf Club has been awarded $5,000 for a mobile patrol trailer to support the expansion of its lifesaving services.

Other community and sporting groups awarded a share of the $300,000 CBP funding include:

Towradgi Public School Parent and Citizens Association for construction of a new inclusive playground: $20,000
Port Kembla Surf Club for club kitchen upgrades: $15,000
Greenacres Disability Service for a kitchen refurbishment: $8,000
Unanderra Hearts Soccer Club for fencing at Unanderra Oval: $20,000
North Dalton Park Regional Sports Centre for installing weather shield for BBQ area: $10,500
Police Citizens Youth Club for new perimeter fencing at PCYC Wollongong: $10,000
Windang Surf Club for all terrain vehicle: $10,000
Multicultural Communities Council of Illawarra for multicultural community kitchen: $10,500.

Member for Wollongong, Paul Scully, announced the CBP grants this morning and said, “One of the best parts of my role as a local MP is to work with local community and sporting groups to help bring long-dreamed of projects to life.

“If it wasn’t for the CBP program many of these sporting and community groups’ volunteers would have to spend so much time raising money from raffles and sausage sizzles and it could take years before these projects get off the ground.

“I am very pleased that with a little funding help that I am able to give under the CBP program for my electorate, many of these projects can now get up and running faster so the whole of the local community can benefit from improvements and new equipment”, he said.

Mr Scully said other sporting and community groups in the Wollongong electorate who had plans for projects should consider applying for funding under the 2020 CBP program when it opens later this year.

The Community Building Partnership (CBP) program was first established in 2010 under the former NSW Labor Government.
