14 August 2019

Member for Wollongong, Paul Scully, has called on Wollongong City Council to fly the Wollongong Wolves colours on its community flagpole in recognition of its NSW premiership win over the weekend.

Member for Wollongong, Paul Scully has called on Wollongong City Council to fly the Wollongong Wolves colours on its community flagpole in recognition of its NSW premiership win over the weekend.

The last time the Wollongong Wolves won the soccer league premiership was 31 years ago in 1988.

Mr Scully said the outstanding victory should be formally recognised by Wollongong City Council with the Club’s colours flown on the community flagpole outside its Administration Centre on Burelli Street from now through to the NPL playoffs.

“Last weekend was a magnificent match against Marconi Stallions at WIN Stadium.

“It has been a long time between drinks for the Wollongong Wolves to hold up high the winner’s trophy for the premiership – but the team pulled off the triumph.

“It was 31 years ago when the whole city came alive with pride and joy the last time the Wollongong Wolves held high the premiership trophy.

“We should all be celebrating the Wollongong Wolves’ victory and wishing the team every success in the playoffs to come.”

Mr Scully has today written to Council’s General Manager requesting the Wollongong Wolves colours be flown on its flagpole and for a civic celebration to be arranged as soon as possible.
