The following sporting and community groups have been awarded a share of the $292,191 in funding:
- Figtree Australian Football Club and Wests Illawarra for the construction of an electronic scoreboard - $65,000
- Wiseman Park Wollongong City Bowling Club for the replacement of a retaining wall and signage - $74,941
- Multicultural Communities Council of Illawarra for the fit out of the Multicultural Seniors Wellbeing Hub - $152,250.
“This funding announcement is great news for these local sporting and community groups and will help them deliver better infrastructure for their members and the community generally.
“Sporting and community volunteers spend a lot of valuable time and energy fundraising and its fantastic to see these local groups get a funding boost to bring these projects to fruition”, Mr Scully said.
The Clubgrants Category 3 Infrastructure Grants program is used to fund the costs of construction, alteration, renovation, completion, and fit-out of buildings and community infrastructure.
Mr Scully has previously drawn public attention to the highly politicised nature of allocating Clubgrants under the NSW Liberal and Nationals Government and how Wollongong had missed out on these funding opportunities.
“I’m very pleased to see that my calling out of how unfairly these funding programs have been allocated in the past seems to have finally shamed the Government into giving Wollongong sporting and community groups a better chance at funding success”, he said.
