Last night Mr Scully took the opportunity to acknowledge and thank everyone involved in hosting the event for their hard work over many years.
Mr Scully has challenged the NSW Government to commit to funding a course marking like the blue line that marked the course of the Sydney Olympic marathon.
“I have approached both the Minister for Sport and the Minister for Active Transport seeking financial support to paint a red course marking on the roads and paths that the worlds best riders will race on this weekend.”
“Using the Wollongong 2022 bike logo to mark each kilometre would add an extra dimension to the road markings”, Mr Scully told Parliament.
“It would provide a simple, user-friendly means of navigating the speedy corners and steep inclines of the Wollongong course – a permanent guide for other cyclists, scooter or skateboard riders to allow them to test their skills and stamina”, he said.
“This small measure will complement the other investments planned by Wollongong City Council as part of its commitment to being a Bike City.
“It will help encourage further visitation to Australia’s only UCI Bike City”, Mr Scully said.
Mr Scully encouraged other MP’s and their families to visit Wollongong for the culmination of racing this weekend encouraging them to get on their bikes and get to the Gong to watch the race.
