Labor MPs Stephen Jones, Sharon Bird, Paul Scully, Anna Watson and Ryan Park are shocked and saddened to hear of the death of long-term Wollongong City Council Councillor Vicky King.
Vicky was a hard-working and long-standing community member having served on Wollongong City Council since 1987.
Vicky was passionate about the development of Wollongong’s southern suburbs such as Dapto and Berkeley.
Long-term friend, former deputy mayor and Wollongong City Council colleague Norma Wilson paid tribute to Vicky King describing her as a salt of the earth person, who was approachable, reliable and fully committed in both public life, and her professional life.
Vicky has always been a trailblazer, when she was first elected to Wollongong City Council in 1987, she would often bring her young daughters Hanna and Matika to Council meetings, at first this would raise a few eyebrows but soon this became the accepted norm.
Apart from serving on Wollongong City Council, Vicky was an accountant who helped thousands and thousands of people in the region manage their financial affairs.
Vicky made a huge difference to the lives of thousands of Illawarra residents as a councillor and as an accountant.
She will be sorely missed by all.
