Member for Wollongong, Paul Scully is asking for community feedback on how the journey to and from local schools by school children can be improved.
As kids head back to school across the Illawarra this week, Mr Scully has launched the local School Safety Survey.
The survey results will help identify areas for improvement to safety so that more children are able to walk or ride their bikes to school, and parents and carers can be confident that they can do so safely.
Parents, carers, teachers, students and local residents are invited to complete the survey and report any safety concerns around local schools.
“Thousands of kids across the Wollongong electorate are going back to school this week, and they should be confident that they can walk or ride their bikes to school safely, Mr Scully said.
“Fewer children walk and ride their bikes to school today than a few decades ago, and that’s mainly because parents and carers don’t feel that it’s safe.”
“There are many small changes that would be able to be made to make the trip to school safer for kids, and I’ll be sending the responses of the survey to Wollongong City Council and the Department of Education, to push for those changes to be made”, he said.
The local School Safety Survey can be completed online at www.nswschoolsafety.com/wollongong and closes on 13 March 2020.
Mr Scully said, “Take two minutes to go online and fill in the survey, and help make our local schools safer.”
People interested in completing the survey who do not have access to the Internet can contact Mr Scully’s office on 4226 5700 for hard copies.
