New ideas sought for Warrawong Parklands

19 November 2024

The Minns Government is inviting Illawarra residents to help shape the future of Warrawong Parklands by contributing fresh and innovative ideas for its new Master Plan.

An election commitment, the Master Plan will guide future land uses across the parklands’ sprawling 32 hectare waterfront site on the shores of Lake Illawarra at Kully Bay.

The Master Plan is a project under the NSW Government’s Parks for People program that creates and rejuvenates better access to public open spaces.

Warrawong is ideally situated to benefit from a major public open space improvement. It is at the heart of the Illawarra and the Warrawong Parklands is close to the Warrawong Plaza, local schools, and homes.

Renewing this public open space will provide a valuable investment as Warrawong and the surrounding areas continue to grow over the coming years.

Planning will now begin on giving the parklands a once-in-a-generation makeover including new commercial and recreational opportunities for the adjoining Kully Bay Park and Kully Bay Sports Complex.

Residents can have their say on Warrawong Parklands’ future by sharing their feedback through an online survey or community workshop. This is an opportunity to share new ideas and help shape the parklands future.

The survey is open until 13 December 2024. For more details, visit: https://www.planning.nsw.gov.au/warrawong-parklands.

There will be digital and in-person workshops available, details will be shared on the project’s website as well as through community notifications.

The Department of Planning, Housing and Infrastructure will host pop-up sessions at local schools and shopping centres.

There will be further opportunities to provide feedback in 2025 ahead of the Master Plan’s finalisation in mid-2025.

Minister of Planning and Public Spaces Paul Scully said:

“Warrawong Parklands is set to become one of the state’s great public spaces.

“This is a great opportunity to get involved in revitalising this special place for local residents and visitors.

“We want to hear people’s ideas and views on how this area should be shaped for future generations.

“I encourage everyone to get involved and start sharing their ideas.”
