MORE STATION LIFTS ANNOUNCED – BUT STILL NOTHING FOR UNANDERRA STATION

24 January 2019

With 58 days left until polling day, the Berejiklian Government continues to promise the installation of lifts for train stations everywhere except for Unanderra Station.

With 58 days left until polling day, the Berejiklian Government continues to promise the installation of lifts for train stations everywhere except for Unanderra Station.

Yesterday the Minister for Transport, Andrew Constance MP, announced no fewer than five train stations on the Central Coast would get lifts.

In the meantime, Unanderra Station commuters are forced to put up with the daily struggle of getting up and down 72 steps to gain access to the platform.

It’s been eight long years since the Premier – a former Transport Minister – flogged the funding allocated by the former Labor Government to install lifts at Unanderra Station for other projects across New South Wales.

The funding has never been returned.

NSW Labor has committed $25 million to upgrade Unanderra Station and install its much-needed lifts as part of the $225 million Illawarra Jobs Action Plan.

Funding will start to roll-out in the very first budget of a Daley Labor Government if NSW Labor is elected to form the next government of NSW on Saturday, 23 March 2019.

Comments attributable to Paul Scully MP:

“As we tick off another day closer to the election, the Berejiklian Government promises more station lifts for other train stations but continues to ignore Unanderra Station.

“I don’t begrudge any other community in the state getting lifts, I just want the Liberals to make the same promise for Unanderra Station.

“I’ve got $25 million on the table to build the Unanderra Station lifts.

“I’d just like the Premier or the Minister, or even Gareth Ward as Parliamentary Secretary for the Illawarra and South Coast, to just match my pledge rather than dismiss the concerns of residents of Unanderra and surrounding suburbs by telling them to just go to another station.”
