Community spirits in Unanderra and the southern suburbs will get a lift as more information has come to light on the upgrade of Unanderra Station.
Last month Transport for NSW indicated that following the publication of the Review of Environmental Factors (REF), community consultations on the project would be sought in early 2020.
The Minister for Transport has also now said that as part of the community consultation process, a pop-up information stall will be available at Unanderra Station so community members can meet the project team and learn more about the project.
In addition, it has been revealed that following the community consultation, planning approval and design work, construction of the new lifts at Unanderra Station will take between 12 and 18 months.
Member for Wollongong, Paul Scully said the release of more information on the timetable for the upgrade project at Unanderra Station would lift the local community’s spirit.
“For years and years the Berejiklian Government always let us down by refusing to listen to the local community’s constant calls for the lifts to be built.
“It seems that at last we may be on the up and up as more information is provided on the project.
“I’m pleased to see that Unanderra Station’s upgrade is being elevated on the Government’s project list.
“It has been stuck for far too long on the ground floor so I’m pleased to see that there is finally some movement to other levels.
“I think that by the local community pushing every button and taking all steps to advocate for the Unanderra Station upgrade and building of the lifts means that the Government is finally taking notice”, he said.
