Illawarra Labor MPs have gone 'back to school' today highlighting a range of initiatives for all local schools in the region, including just over $61 million in additional funding if a Shorten Labor Government is elected this year.

Illawarra Labor MPs have gone ‘back to school’ today highlighting a range of initiatives for all local schools in the region, including just over $61 million in additional funding if a Shorten Labor Government is elected this year.

This means that schools like Wollongong High School of the Performing Arts will receive about $1.35 million in extra funding; Warilla High School will receive about $1.54 million in extra funding and Vincentia High School will receive about $1.65 million in extra funding over three years respectively.

Local schools between Helensburgh in the Illawarra’s north and Moruya on the South Coast will benefit from total additional funding of $61.3 million.

This funding boost will mean that every child, in every single local school, will be able to get a great education.

Federal Labor will restore every dollar of the $14 billion the Morrison Government has cut from public schools.

Federal Labor will also introduce a new two year National Preschool and Kindy Program guaranteeing around 700,000 Australian children a year will be able to access subsidised preschool.

Federal Labor will commission a review of NAPLAN to improve insights from tests to focus on the progress of schools and students over time.

A Shorten Labor Government will also make sure every child has access to swimming and water safety lessons in primary school.

NSW Labor will prioritise the building of new schools and conduct an immediate audit of all government land to identify priority sites for new schools in the Illawarra.

A focus will also end the dreaded double-drop off by co-locating childcare and before-and-after-school care in all new schools, giving parents and carers extra time to get to work every day.

NSW Labor will provide free public transport for children on the Opal network until the age of 16 years or when they graduate from high school.

A Daley Labor Government will make sure every public school will be air-conditioned to make learning more comfortable during the hot summer months.

Every child will be better off in every local school in the Illawarra region under Labor Governments.
