Kids Book Drive back again!

14 October 2022

In launching his 2022 Kids Book Drive, Member for Wollongong, Paul Scully, is hoping that this year will be bigger than ever.

In its fifth year, the Kids Book Drive collects and donates books to students in Kindergarten, Year 1, and Year 2 at local schools to encourage reading and help support children maintain their literacy skills over the summer holidays.

Last year saw over 1000 books donated to the book drive and delivered to children in five local schools, as well as additional books donated to SAHSSI for families fleeing domestic violence.

"There was great excitement around Book Week this year and I am hoping there is just as much interest and excitement in this year’s book drive.

“I loved getting a book every Christmas as a kid. Some kids don’t have lots of books at home, or aren’t confident readers, and I hope that having a book to keep and read will help them become lifelong readers.

“The last few years have been really tough for everyone, and many people are still facing a lot of stress with rising cost of living pressures, but our local community always bands together to help out one another”, Mr Scully said.

“I’m asking the local community to come out again and support my book drive, by donating new books for local Kinder, Year 1, and Year 2 students, or you can donate a book voucher if that’s easier”, he said.

Books can be donated until Friday 9 December 2022 at Mr Scully’s office at G2, 51 Crown St, Wollongong, or his office can be contacted to make other arrangements.
