CRUISE DEVELOPMENT PLAN STILL RUDDERLESS

The mystery Cruise Development Plan, first promised by the New South Wales Government in June 2014, is still to be finalised it has been revealed.

The mystery Cruise Development Plan, first promised by the New South Wales Government in June 2014, is still to be finalised it has been revealed.

The Government is now planning to finalise the Cruise Development Plan by December this year – 3 years late.

However, the Government has a history of making similar promises on when the Cruise Development Plan will be finished.

The 10 year Cruise Development Plan was first promised in June 2014.

The Government then promised in it would be completed by December 2014.

Then, the Government promised in November 2016 it would be finished by early 2017.

Now, it says the Cruise Development Plan will be “finalised by December 2017.”

Despite the endless wait for the Government to get its act together, Port Kembla is likely to feature in the Cruise Development Plan, which is welcome news.

That was not the case when the original announcement was made that the 10 year Cruise Development Plan was being developed.

The Government’s admission came in an answer to a Question on Notice by Wollongong MP, Paul Scully.

Comments attributable to Paul Scully MP:

“The completion of the Cruise Development Plan is a bit like a magical mystery cruise.

“We’ve been promised the completion of the decade long plan year-after-year-after-year.

“Now its completion has been put off again until the end of this year at this rate it’s going to take 10 years to develop the 10 year plan.

“The only positive thing to come out of the waiting is it has been confirmed that Port Kembla will now feature in the Cruise Development Plan, when it wasn’t considered at the time it was originally announced.

“My only worry is while we continue to wait for the Government to get its act together in releasing the Cruise Development Plan, are we at risk of missing the boat on attracting more cruise ship stops at Port Kembla?”
