BAIRD GOVERNMENT’S 2017 TO-DO LIST FOR WOLLONGONG

02 January 2017

The start of 2017 is the perfect time for the Baird Government to stop ignoring the needs of Wollongong and back investments in the region that will help to support and create more local jobs.

The start of 2017 is the perfect time for the Baird Government to stop ignoring the needs of Wollongong and back investments in the region that will help to support and create more local jobs.

A to-do list for the Baird Government for 2017 for Wollongong includes:

  1. Committing to funding the lifts at Unanderra station in the next budget
  2. Supporting our steel industry by committing to at least 90 per cent local steel in every NSW Government infrastructure project
  3. Supporting local jobs growth by funding the upgrade of the WIN Entertainment Centre
  4. Reversing its decision to privatise Shellharbour Public Hospital and shifting services from Port Kembla Hospital
  5. Committing to the relocation of public service jobs to Wollongong

Committing to supporting the future of Wollongong should not be left exclusively to Labor. In 2017 the Baird Government has a fresh opportunity to join Labor in a bi-partisan commitment to the future of the third largest city in New South Wales.

Comments to be attributed to Paul Scully:

“Each year thousands of people pledge to a program of self-improvement for the new year.

“This year we want Mike Baird and Gareth Ward to commit to a program of improvements for Wollongong.

“To help them out I have come up with a simple to-do list for 2017.

“The ideas are there; they have been costed and they are ready to go.

“What Wollongong needs is for the Baird Government to get serious about the region.

“We are only asking for the Baird Government to stop ignoring us and support jobs growth.

“I hope that rather than relying on his tired old defensive lines that Gareth Ward adopts a new approach this year and backs the initiatives in this to-do list and joins me in fighting for them.”
