Unanderra Tennis Club is the big winner of the Wollongong 2019-20 Local Sport Grant Program receiving $13,000 to re-surface its two synthetic tennis courts to acrylic, Member for Wollongong, Paul Scully announced today.

Ten other local netball, swimming, cycling, football, baseball, rugby league, surf life-saving and table tennis sports round out the recipients to share in $60,000 worth of sport funding grants in the Wollongong electorate.

The organisations have received funding in one of three categories under the 2019-20 Local Sport Grant Program, which includes sport access, sport development and facility development.

Mr Scully said he was pleased to be able to recommend a spread of funding projects across most of the sporting codes across the Wollongong electorate.

“All of the funded projects aim to help local sporting codes attract new members, support existing members, purchase new equipment and upgrade existing infrastructure.

“I encourage the clubs to shop local wherever possible to purchase equipment and other items funded by these grants.

“The funding for this year will be even more important so we help stimulate local businesses and get people back into work following the devastation of the COVID-19 virus pandemic.”

Among other funding recipients, Port Kembla Football Club will receive $7,503 to upgrade training field lighting at Wetherall Park.

Berkeley Netball Club will receive $4,500 to help subsidise registration fees for junior players.

Wests Illawarra Aquatic Swim Club will receive $5,000 towards the purchase of uniforms and equipment.

“I know these sporting funding grants will be very useful to the many volunteers who keep these sporting clubs ticking over so we all benefit from a healthier and active local community”, Mr Scully said.
