PREMIER REVEALS OLD NEWS ON SCHOOL FUNDING

Premier Gladys Berejiklian has visited a Wollongong school this morning to re-announce old news on maintenance funding.

Premier Gladys Berejiklian has visited a Wollongong school this morning to re-announce old news on maintenance funding.

The Premier was unable to give a precise figure on how much funding would be provided to Gwynneville Public School during a press conference this morning.

The maintenance funding for Wollongong electorate schools was first announced by the Minister for Education, Rob Stokes MP, in an answer to a Question on Notice placed by Wollongong MP, Paul Scully MP, on 13 June 2017 (see attachment).

Comments attributable to Paul Scully MP:

“I expected the Premier to announce exactly what Gwynneville Public School will get in new funding during her press conference this morning.

“Instead, the Premier was unable to tell us how much Gwynneville Public School will get and only re-announced old news on funding for maintenance across my electorate that the Minister for Education told me about in June.

“If you’re intending to use a local school as a backdrop for a funding announcement, I would have thought the first thing you should do is announce exactly how much the school you’re using for a publicity stunt will get in funding.

“I am also disappointed that the Premier did not extend an invitation to me, as the Local MP, to join with her at Gwynneville Public School this morning and chose instead to play politics with this announcement.”
